The country is all set to have another tea auction centre in Panchagarh next month.
This will be the third such centres in the country.
“The tea auction centre will start its operation within a month. The authorities concerned have already completed preparations,” Panchagarh Deputy Commissioner M Jahurul Islam said.
Initially, the activities of the centre will be conducted through a virtual platform before gradually evolving into a full-fledged auction centre, he added.
At present, Bangladesh has two tea auction centres — one in Chattogram and one in Sylhet’s Sreemangal.
Interest in tea cultivation among the farmers has been increasing in Panchagarh and Thakurgaon as the corp brings in more profit for them.
As a result, the number of tea gardens are also increasing.
Once the Panchagarh auction centre starts operation, tea producers in the northern region of Bangladesh will benefit from reduced transportation cost.
“Overall, the activity of the auction centre will help develop the quality of the tea produced here,” Jahurul Islam added.
